President Trump slammed Iran on Friday for leaking terms of the agreement, which Trump said are false, to Iranian state media and appeared to threaten Iran over hostilities last night against commercial ships.
Trump on Thursday told reporters in the Oval Office that the US "just made a great settlement of the war with Iran, and we're going to be subject to finalization of documents."
He also said, "They will not have a nuclear weapon. They've agreed to that."
Trump had announced earlier on Thursday that he was canceling scheduled airstrikes and bombings against Iran after Iran approved the memorandum of understanding to extend a ceasefire and continue negotiations. The President said that discussions had been "brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved."
CNN reported that Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail told Iranian state media on Thursday, "Iran has not reached a final decision regarding any agreement," and that "U.S. actions are affecting the diplomatic process."
He further described claims that the agreement had been finalized as "merely speculation."
Iranian state media went on to report that under the terms of the memorandum, Iran would not concede control of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran had not made a final agreement on nuclear enrichment, according to Reuters's Phil Stewart. The IRNA news agency claimed that nuclear talks would continue during the 60-day ceasefire.
Trump blasted Iran, writing, "The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing."
"What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth. Very dishonorable people to deal with. With them, there is no such thing as dealing in good faith," he continued.
"Also, their totally rebuffed Drone attack last night against Indian Ships leaving the Hormuz Strait is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. They better get their act together, and FAST!" Trump added. A senior US defense official told Fox News that Iran targeted commercial ships in the Strait last night and that the US military intercepted two Iranian attack drones.
