According to the BBC, "UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said Israel's 'relentless' settlement expansion fuels tensions, restricts Palestinian access to land, and threatens the viability of a sovereign Palestinian state."
The new settlements could also interrupt ongoing peace negotiations as the Trump administration works to end Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bombings of Gaza and Hamas attacks on Israel.
Furthermore, the new settlements have people around the world questioning if Israel is moving closer to a full annexation of the occupied West Bank.
U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance have repeatedly condemned the notion of Israel annexing the area, vowing to stop financially and militarily supporting the country if it went ahead with the idea.
