Trump's alignment with Israel at the expense of America's interest and the valid interests of other countries is especially galling for those Trump supporters who believe in America First. Others are annoyed by his war talk and aggressive behavior toward other countries such as Venezuela, Cuba, Mexico, Denmark, and Iran especially. We should keep in mind that Trump's negotiating style is to make threats to get attention to his agenda, and then substitute a deal for the threats. In other words Trump has not gone crazy and is not about to go to war with a large part of the world.
Keep in mind that Trump has pros as well as cons and consider the pros before writing Trump off on the cons. Trump has closed the border and is trying to deal with the illegal immigrant problem despite the opposition of Democrats. A few articles back I listed a number of his pros. These are real achievements for which Trump deserves credit. Currently in the winter 2026 issue of City Journal Heather Mac Donald remind us of another Trump pro. Trump is the first president since Richard Nixon to speak with urgency of the crime problem in the United States.
Trump, like President Nixon, does not accept the Democrats' explanation that crime results from society's ills, poverty, racism, or that de-criminalization and de-incarceration are solutions. The Democrats' approach has resulted, for example, in a black with 14 prior arrests plunging a knife multiple times into the neck of a young white woman on Charlotte, North Carolina, public transportation who was unaware of her danger. The examples of the Democrats' refusal to punish dangerous criminals are endless. Another example is a man with a long criminal history who doused a woman with gasoline on a Chicago subway train and set her on fire. Unlike previous American presidents, with the exception of Nixon, Trump thinks horrific murderous crimes committed by people known to be a serious threat are worthy of comment.
Whether the United States, even when led by Trump, can put the crime genie released by the Democrats back in the bottle remains to be seen. Heather McDonald reminds us that the crime problem has the attention of an American president for the first time since the 1970s. This is a very big pro for President Trump and public safety.
