The former CEO of the Walt Disney Company will next week release a memoir detailing his time at the company, four years after he was fired from the post.
Behind The Castle Walls: My Thirty Years at the Happiest Place on Earth by Bob Chapek will be published by Gallery Books, a division of Simon & Schuster.
In his memoir, he is set to reveal for the first time the high-stakes manoeuvrings that unravelled behind the scenes, from his 2020 appointment to his dismissal in 2022.
The book is scheduled for publication on September 29, 2026 and will 'settle scores' with Bob Iger, who both preceded and succeeded Mr Chapek, according to the New York Times.
Mr Chapek recounts his early years, raised in small-town Indiana by his mother and his Second World War veteran father.
In 1993, he began working at The Walt Disney Company as the marketing director for Home Entertainment.
From there he held key roles including president of Disney consumer products and chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products.
In February 2020, after 27 years at the company, he was handed the role of CEO of the Walt Disney Company.
Within weeks of starting at the top, the Covid-19 pandemic shut down parks, theatres and cruise ships – forcing Mr Chapek to steer the billion-dollar empire through unprecedented and difficult times.
The stakes were high and the backlash constant, leaving him to wonder whether he had become the scapegoat in it all.
In 2022, Mr Chapek left the company; his former boss, Bob Iger, returned, coming back from retirement.
In the book, he reportedly argues ex-CEO Bob Iger – who is mentioned 121 times – stabbed him in the back.
Mr Chapek argues Mr Iger was 'the real reason' the board dismissed him, according to Variety.
The publication, which previewed the book, also revealed that he wrote: 'My abrupt dismissal hurt my reputation, leaving those close to me, outsiders, and some within the kingdom trying to figure out what I did wrong.'
It also argues Mr Iger blamed Mr Chapek for rising prices at the Disney parks, although the former reportedly did the same thing himself.
